Breathing Art at BenCab Museum

I've been wanting to see the galleries housed inside BenCab Museum for a very long time now. Fortunately, my dad listened to me this time and allowed me to visit it before we head back home.

It was a long drive down the slopes of Asin Road, Tuba, Benguet. It's fun to use google maps with trips like this because you're depending on something that could go offline any moment. We drove as fast as we could because dark clouds were starting to form and fogs started to grow and climb up the roads.

Ticket costs 120 pesos.

The line was long at the ticket booth.  I remembered seeing so many giddy teenagers getting inside the museum, and then there's me, fidgeting like crazy because of too much excitement. It's funny how much influence a movie could impart to people especially to the youths of today. We all have seen the movie That Thing Called Tadhana, and BenCab Museum was shown on that beautiful indie film. I must admit that a part of me wanted to visit the museum because of the movie - but more than that, I wanted to see it because I was particularly drawn on its contemporary and modern artworks.

A cool take on Baguio City.

For the months of April and May, BenCab highlighted his portraits of different Philippine National Artists for the Arts.

What I love about BenCab Museum is its contemporary collection. It's an opportunity for us to meet new and upcoming artists with different perspectives, aesthetics and flairs.

This painting was titled, "Spin Doctors". This has got to be one of my favorite pieces out of all the contemporary genre because it's relative to our modern day society, in a way. For me, it shows the 3 different masks we put on - one we show the world, one we show to a few people and one that only ourselves know.

Famished and parched, we headed down to Cafe Sabel to eat and relax for a bit before we finally leave the museum. The interiors of Cafe Sabel reminded me of something that's a little bohemian. The colors, the ambiance and even the wooden floors will make you feel like you're in a nearby beach. The cafe's al fresco theme was so soothing. It's just you, the food, the fresh air and the scenic Baguio view in front of you.

We ordered White Chocolate and Mango Shakes for our refreshments. Then we ordered their Homemade Cookies and Biscotti for our snacks. It was a little pricey but it's all worth every cent. The place is perfect with foods to match, so what more can you ask for?

This Baguio trip was more than what I have expected it to be. I have done most of the things that I wanted. I got to try out some food joints and I have reconnected with my artistic soul again. I could have never asked for a different itinerary for this trip. And going to BenCab Museum to capped off this journey couldn't get any more perfect. The experience I felt while perusing the galleries was more than just looking at the artworks, it sent me to a trance, to a different a realm. My creative eyes were revitalized and I will go home with new knowledges about art.

I was glad I have made it before the museum closed, because I couldn't share this to you now if I haven't. Some things, I believed, are perfectly timed to be more than just an ordinary experience.
