The Timeless Heritage Town of Taal

I might be the biggest fan of old towns. Well, as far as I know. Since I was a kid, I have been used to watching classic movies set in some old romantic place.  As I grew up, it was instill in my mind that the epitome of romanticism are old towns, made out of wood with cobblestone streets.

I was excited to finally see the old town of Taal. I was giddy, like a child on Christmas day, impatiently waiting to open his gifts. It was quite a long journey to get to Taal. It took us 3 hours before we finally reached it.

We first drove by Tagaytay, the second most well-known summer destination in the Philippines after Baguio City. This place has always been the gateway to the southern provinces in Luzon. It's mostly renowned for its cool temperature and the lovely view of Taal Volcano.

behold the majestic, Taal Volcano.

Fantasy World Amusement Park is very reminiscent of those castles found in Europe.

We were welcomed by this grand cathedral, known as, Basilica of St. Martin of Tours. The barren yellowish cemented walls almost told me its age but in a way gave it a more classic look. The Corinthian pillars are comparable to those of European Cathedrals.

The interiors are equally magnificent. From the ceiling up to the smallest details, this cathedral was well-thought of.

Awestruck.

It was the first time I saw my mom excited to walk around someplace. She's mostly too lazy to roam when it's hot outside. But I guess the relaxed, laid-back vibe of Taal tricked her into walking. We were amazed on how this place was preserved despite of all the modernity.

The ancestral homes stood in straight lines, following through the narrow paths of its evenly narrow streets. The sun was scorching but the air was cool. It was a very good day to stroll and take a sip of some cold lemonade we bought at the nearest convenience store.

If only we had the chance to preserve all of our ancestral homes here in the Metro, then we would have more places like this. I guess shoulda, woulda, coulda are always the last words of a fool. We have been fooled into modernizing everything when we could have preserved the old and bring it into the new. This is what our city needed--a little touch of classic, timeless architectures. How cool would it be, if in the midst of the bustling metropolis, there are timeless homes that literally have stood the test of time?

Shoulda. Woulda. Coulda.
