Burot Beach: The Hidden Paradise of Calatagan, Batangas
12:25 PM
Summer is fast approaching and we flock at beaches during this season to escape the intense blaze of the sun. One of the provinces known for its world-class resorts is, Batangas. Home to a lot of diving spots and other water activities, Batangas has a hidden gem in the town of Calatagan.
Calatagan is located in the southern tip of Batangas. Known for its ports and fishing villages, now, it's getting a lot of recognition for its pristine beaches, as well. Burot Beach is one of the finest beaches I've seen. Though, it's not yet as developed as our other beaches, it has something else to offer. And although it's man-made, this beach has this natural, virgin beach look that will make you think otherwise.
How does it feel living in the middle of the sea?
We spent the previous night lying down beneath the bare night skies filled with countless stars. I swear, every time I looked up, there's a falling star ready for some wishes. It was a different experience staying in a pitch black terrain with nothing but light coming from the distant galaxies, but nonetheless, it was an out-of-body experience because you'll think of what's outside our planet.
Mornings always make me feel tranquil and relaxed. Colorful bangkas rest along the shore as the bangkeros await for tourists to take to the sandbar. Everything I saw was almost crystal blue. From the cold waters to the morning sky above, everything was blue except what I was feeling 'cause I was red with pure happiness.
I can say that I grew up knowing this beach. Since I was a kid, we used to go here every summer because the caretaker is my father's close friend. Back when it was still a private property, Burot beach was my own little paradise. I felt like I owned the whole sea. I would swim all-day long til I get my skin golden brown and my feet sore like I just had run a mile.
The sea was calm and the tides were low so we got the chance to visit the low-lying sandbar buried in the midst of the waters. The bangka carried us across the breakwater and from there, the water suddenly looked so deep. I was frightened for a little while. We were riding this tiny and fragile boat and we were in the middle of the sea with nothing but our gadgets in our hands. But still, I managed to carefully take shots of some beautiful moments.
We docked on the shallowest part of the sandbar. The water was only an ankle deep. Even if you go a little farther, the water's depth is still the same. It was an opportunity grabbed my nieces and my younger sister to have a blast running from end to end restlessly.
Every visit, I could almost picture every part of my childhood here. I was here when I was ten and twelve until I was full-grown. I wouldn't get tired of visiting Burot.
If you wanna relax and just see the beauty of the beach in the morning and the glorious skies in the evening, go here. Do not think twice. Just pack your bags and go. Write your own stories and enjoy the pleasure of living.
Tell me your own summer stories in the comments section. I would love to read some of your experiences.
