Captivated by Cebu
8:58 PMAs we walked through the streets, I realized that Cebu has maintained its peacefulness despite of the chaos brought by all of the people walking in all directions. So I was able to take my time, capturing candid moments of people as they go through their daily lives.
We paid our last respect to Basilica Minore del Santo Nino before leaving Cebu. All I can say is that its a timeless architecture. It may have been destroyed by the earthquake, but you can still see the beauty it hides from all the cracks and fractures.
The Basilica was founded in 1565. It is the oldest Catholic Church in the country.
Definitely one of my favorite shots, to date.
The interiors were filled with opulence. From the walls, to the ceiling and the hanging chandeliers, you can see how intricate the details were.
This is Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral. It is situated in the street of Mabini. In 1909, Bishop Juan Bautista Gorordo, marked the completion of the cathedral's construction.
Standing in front of it felt like seeing one of those European cathedrals. Its regalness is quite remarkable despite all the cracks. I honestly feel like somehow, it's living in the shadows of the more popular, Basilica Menor del Santo Nino. But that could just be me.
This is the Cebu Heritage Monument. Its construction was finished in December 2000. A local artist named Eduardo Castrillo built the sculptures but it was with the help of the late senator Marcelo Fernan alongside other donations from private individuals who paved the way for its construction.
The Colon Obelisk, known also as Colon Marker, signifies the history of Colon itself. Colon is the oldest and shortest national road in the Philippines. It was established in the year 1565, during the reign of Miguel Lopez de Legaspi. Its cool seeing an obelisk in our country. It's quite unusual, frankly speaking. But it's one of the best things to have ever come out of being colonized by the Spaniards.
I have gone to many places in the past few days, but I know, I still have a lot of destinations left to see. I know that in the future, I will go to a lot of places other than Cebu, but Cebu will always be my first. My first plane ride, first time experiencing getting lost, first time swimming with the whale sharks. I could basically go on forever listing all my firsts here.
This trip will always be special to me. It took me out of my shell. Of what I thought was the farthest place I could ever go to. Experiencing Cebu this way, though we had a lot of bumps along the way, still led us into the most perfect journey.
