Things I Have Learned in Macau

"I will never forget how getting lost in a vaguely unfamiliar place can really help you find your way. And in some odd sense, if you're lucky enough, you will also find yourself in the process."

I took my final look at Macau's beautiful cityscape. And again, I got lost in the twinkles and blurs of its city lights. I was mesmerized as the bus run along its busy streets. I was saddened to leave Macau. A part of me wanted to stop the bus and get off, but a part of me's also excited to see what's in store for me in Hong Kong.

We hurriedly bought tickets for the ferry trip bound for Kowloon. The departure board showed that we only have a few minutes left before the ferry leaves. I hugged my sister tightly because I know I wouldn't be seeing her in a long while. I turned my back on her and dragged my bags towards the terminal. It was a sad moment. I felt like my heart left a small piece of it in Macau. But I need to get back on track and continue my journey.

We ran towards the entrance where I tripped on my feet. It was an embarrassing moment, I admit. Nonetheless, it was a funny way top cap off this trip. Definitely a thing that's hard to forget.

It might be a short-lived trip, but the learning experiences will remain eternal. I'm proud to say that even within those two days, Macau gave me a newer perspective in life – a different way of thinking about things. This trip taught me to be independent – to believe in myself that I can get pass through everything by my own self, in a place where language barrier is a huge factor.
Macau showed me how beautiful our world can be. It's a big world out there, there's no doubt about it. And perhaps, Macau is just a tiny speck in this big snow globe, but it was enough for me that time. Macau seemed to have shown me a gateway to the world – opposing cultures molded into a beautiful place. I'm glad I have chosen Macau as my first overseas trip. It was a very excellent mixture of Western and Eastern cultures. A definite eye-opener.
I admire the peoples' overall discipline. Whether it be the line for the bus or how long the bus waits for its passengers, their respect for the law is evident.

I have learned that Filipinos will do anything for their dreams and most importantly for their families. My short stay made me realize how much I yearn for the comfort of my own home. That though it was short, it had felt like a lifetime. I admire every single Filipino I've met during my stay in Macau. They might have some superhuman abilities to endure living far from their loved ones. I have also realized that I couldn't leave home for a work abroad. I just couldn't bare the loneliness . Maybe, one day, I'll get used to it. And maybe, this was the start. But for now, I'm okay with just plain travelling.
As I look back on my experiences, I know I wouldn't want to change a thing. I know everything we experienced made this trip so memorable.
I will never forget how getting lost in a vaguely unfamiliar place can really help you find your way. And in some odd sense, if you're lucky enough, you will also find yourself in the process.
